Understanding the Data Recovery MD bad sector repair process involves understanding the internal structure of a hard drive. Inside every Hard Drive (except solid state drives) are disc like objects called platters, which magnetically store data. The speed in which these circular objects rotate and offer data to the motherboard are called revolutions per minute, or RPM. A stem, or “read/write head” accesses seemingly random areas on the platter and reads the data. This is what allows your computer to open files and operate programs. Over time, the platters will start to slow in speed, decreasing the RPM. Some files may become harder to access as the constant spinning damages a portion, or sector, of the platter. This is when you need bad sector repair. When you hear a clicking sound on your hard drive, that’s a sign of a physically damaged hard drive that’s potentially beyond repair. Before it gets to that point, some sectors may simply be defective or need defragmentation. We provide full, internal bad sector repair for all hard drives.
